While 5G frequencies cause harm other frequencies (e.g., the Schumann Resonance) can heal and possibly cure various diseases. Royal Raymond Rife (May 16, 1888 August 5, 1971) was an American inventor known for his belief that he could observe and render inert a number of viruses which he thought were causal factors in several diseases, most notably cancer. The observations were made though a specially designed optical microscope, only five of which were ever constructed. Rife claimed that a "beam ray" device could devitalize the pathogens by inducing destructive resonances in their constituent chemicals. Rife's claims could not be independently replicated, and active scientific interest in the devices had dissipated by the 1950s. Interest in Rife's claims was revived in some alternative medical spheres by the book The Cancer Cure That Worked (1987), which claimed that Rife's work was successful. The book also claimed that his cure for cancer was suppressed by a conspiracy headed by the American Medical Association. After publication, a variety of devices bearing Rife's name were marketed as cures for diverse diseases such as cancer and AIDS. From Wikipedia.

Gnosis:
Critical Theory and Transcendence
Books:

Crossing BoundrariesCrossing Boundaries: Essays on the Ethical Status of Mysticism, G. William Barnard and Jeffrey J. Kripal, eds. (New York: Seven Bridges Press/Chatham House, 2002).

This volume emerged out of a long-standing debate about the relationship between mysticism and ethics that I have had with my close colleague and friend G. William Barnard of Southern Methodist University. Put much too simply, I hold that there is no necessary relationship between the two, and Bill holds that there is. It’s much more complicated than that, of course. Hence this collection of essays. Unfortunately, the press that published the volume went out of business shortly after the book appeared, so it is almost impossible to find now—a rare book! I wrote three essays for this volume, all of which develop my thesis that, although monistic mystical experiences may well grant access to deeper strata of reality (I suspect they do), such states of consciousness do not necessarily produce or lead to ethical behavior and are often, indeed, catalyzed by entirely non-moral or even immoral events (like car wrecks, antinomian rituals, and sexual trauma). Monism, after all, implies an erasure or annihilation of ultimate difference, whereas moral norms require multiple moral subjects and elaborate social structures to exist at all.
 the Return of the repressed
The return of the repressed is the process whereby repressed elements, preserved in the unconscious, tend to reappear, in consciousness or in behavior, in the shape of secondary and more or less unrecognizable "derivatives of the unconscious." Parapraxes, bungled or symptomatic actions, are examples of such derivatives

The Return of the Repressed: Gothic Horror from The Castle of Otranto to Alien (SUNY series in Psychoanalysis and Culture) Paperback – September 30, 1999
Examines the psychological, cultural, and political implications of Gothic fiction, and helps to explain why horror writers and filmmakers have found such large and receptive audiences eager for the experience of being scared out of their wits.

Exploring the psychological and political implications of Gothic fiction, Valdine Clemens focuses on some major works in the tradition: The Castle of Otranto, Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Dracula, The Shining, and Alien. She applies both psychoanalytic theory and sociohistorical contexts to offer a fresh approach to Gothic fiction, presenting new insights both about how such novels “work” and about their cultural concerns.

Clemens argues that by stimulating a sense of primordial fear in readers, Gothic horror dramatically calls attention to collective and attitudinal problems that have been unrecognized or repressed in the society at large. Gothic fiction does more, however, than simply reflect social anxieties; it actually facilitates social change. That is, in frightening us out of our collective “wits,” Gothic fiction actually shocks us into using them in more viable ways.

don't want to do anything subversive - I just want to destroy capitalism. A collection of 'ultra' prose and poetry from 300 years of outrage, passion, sarcasm and wit. Quotes, rants, declarations and blood-curdling warcries. This is utterly brilliant, and is finally reprinted here (from an obscure edition first published in the 60s) in a new edition edited, introduced, and illustrated by Clifford Harper. "Death to middle-class society, and long live anarchism!"

A superb example of the sociological imagination and an important and balanced contribution to our understanding of surveillance and society.

Data Privacy Law
A Practical Guide
G. E. Kennedy, L. S. P. Prabhu (You?)|2017|
4.57
A survey of Data Privacy and Security Laws worldwide, with helpful explanations. "What do Target, Google, Apple and Samsung all have in common? If you answered multimillion dollar fines for data privacy violations, you’d be right. But you don’t have to be Google to face a crippling lawsuit that could threaten the future of your business. Written in accessible language by experienced US and internationally-qualified professionals, Data Privacy: A Practical Guide enables business people to develop a quick and sound understanding of a company’s legal obligations to protect client data.
This book answers questions like: Which are the key data privacy law standard-setting bodies in the US and internationally? To what extent does cross-border selling expose you to data privacy compliance risks in foreign countries? Can you effectively offload your legal responsibilities to protect customer data to outsourced third-party service providers like web hosts and payment processors? What are your legal obligations after discovering a data privacy breach? What legal risks are involved in Web-based file sharing services like Dropbox? At what stage must you appoint a Data Protection Officer? How to document your company’s compliance with its data privacy policy? …and many more Concrete examples are introduced throughout the text and are annotated to illustrate the implications of applicable laws on data privacy policies. Essential summaries ensure that key applicable laws of the US, Canada, EU, Australia, and several emerging markets are taken into account when designing your company’s data protection policies. We also provide specific recommended courses of action to follow to mitigate liability following a data privacy breach. If you are creating, managing or complying with data privacy policy in an organization, this book was written for you. (show less)

Data and Goliath
The Hidden Battles to Collect Your Data and Control Your World
Bruce Schneier (You?)|2015|
4.57
You are under surveillance right now.
Your cell phone provider tracks your location and knows who’s with you. Your online and in-store purchasing patterns are recorded, and reveal if you're unemployed, sick, or pregnant. Your e-mails and texts expose your intimate and casual friends. Google knows what you’re thinking because it saves your private searches. Facebook can determine your sexual orientation without you ever mentioning it
The powers that surveil us do more than simply store this information.
Corporations use surveillance to manipulate not only the news articles and advertisements we each see, but also the prices we’re offered. Governments use surveillance to discriminate, censor, chill free speech, and put people in danger worldwide. And both sides share this information with each other or, even worse, lose it to cybercriminals in huge data breaches
Much of this is voluntary: we cooperate with corporate surveillance because it promises us convenience, and we submit to government surveillance because it promises us protection. The result is a mass surveillance society of our own making. But have we given up more than we’ve gained? In Data and Goliath, security expert Bruce Schneier offers another path, one that values both security and privacy. He shows us exactly what we can do to reform our government surveillance programs and shake up surveillance-based business models, while also providing tips for you to protect your privacy every day. You'll never look at your phone, your computer, your credit cards, or even your car in the same way again (show less)

How are companies going to face the future in this tumultuous and uncertain time?
What makes the apps that consume our daily lives so successful? How is your personal data being collected and analyzed in today's age of automation? What about data privacy, does it really matter? Is your mind being hacked? Are humans underrated? How much of the data that permeates our daily lives is actually trustworthy?" Using real-world scenarios and case studies, this book focuses on the practical applications of data and analytics to help tackle these questions and much more. The stakes are personal and daunting, but it is a critical journey--a continuous voyage that will lead to the ultimate destination depending on how fast you adapt and adjust along the way (

Your privacy and being online are fundamentally out of balance. When you use smart phones, tablets, computers, TVs, and smart speakers you are under technology surveillance. Vendors all over the world collect personal information about you and your behavior without your explicit consent. The context for collection gets lost. Personal information is absorbed into reputation profiles, bought and sold by data brokers – which you have no control over.
Decisions are made automatically that impact not just the ads you see, but offers and prices for goods and services, eligibility for loans, approval for insurance, and selection for employment. You have the right to be left alone and control how you present yourself to the world. Your Online Privacy Scorecard Health Information Websites is the first comprehensive evaluation of how well health information websites meet their business obligations to protect personal information. The scorecard explains how personal information including health interests collected during website visits searching for health information is used to build extensive reputation profiles by a worldwide network of data brokers and advertising technology vendors. Some health information websites invite more than 150 third parties located all over the world including Russia to collect and use detailed information about each website visit. Nine of the top10 most visited health information websites do not adequately protect the privacy of personal information. Detailed scorecards for National Institutes of Health, Mercola, Mayo Clinic, Drugscom, WebMD, MedicineNet, Healthgrades, EverydayHealth, Healthcom and Healthline. (show less)

Ten Arguments for Deleting Your Social Media Accounts Right Now
Jaron Lanier (You?)|2019|
4.52
A timely call-to-arms from a Silicon Valley pioneer.
You might have trouble imagining life without your social media accounts, but virtual reality pioneer Jaron Lanier insists that we’re better off without them. In Ten Arguments for Deleting Your Social Media Accounts Right Now, Lanier, who participates in no social media, offers powerful and personal reasons for all of us to leave these dangerous online platforms
Lanier’s reasons for freeing ourselves from social media’s poisonous grip include its tendency to bring out the worst in us, to make politics terrifying, to trick us with illusions of popularity and success, to twist our relationship with the truth, to disconnect us from other people even as we are more “connected” than ever, to rob us of our free will with relentless targeted ads. How can we remain autonomous in a world where we are under continual surveillance and are constantly being prodded by algorithms run by some of the richest corporations in history that have no way of making money other than being paid to manipulate our behavior? How could the benefits of social media possibly outweigh the catastrophic losses to our personal dignity, happiness, and freedom? Lanier remains a tech optimist, so while demonstrating the evil that rules social media business models today, he also envisions a humanistic setting for social networking that can direct us toward a richer and fuller way of living and connecting with our world (show less)
Digital Resilience
Is Your Company Ready for the Next Cyber Threat?
Ray Rothrock (You?)|2018|
4.5
Don’t let your company be the next grim headline . . . Cybercrime is on the rise — and businesses large and small are at risk. For management, the question is not if you will be targeted, but when. Are you prepared? Is your enterprise actively monitoring networks, taking steps to understand and contain attacks, enabling continued operation during an incident? Do you have a recovery plan ready? Few are prepared, explains cybersecurity expert Ray Rothrock, who lays bare tactics used by hackers, vulnerabilities lurking in networks, and strategies not just for surviving attacks, but thriving even while under assault.
Fascinating and highly readable, Digital Resilience opens with the infamous 2013 Target attack, which compromised the credit card information of 40 million customers. In hindsight, the hack (like most today) was preventable. This book helps businesses: Understand the threats they face • Assess the resilience of their networks against attacks • Identify and address weaknesses • Respond to exploits swiftly and effectively Data theft. Downed servers. Malware. Even human error can trigger cyber events anytime from anywhere around the globe. This powerful guide provides the resilience-building strategies you need to prevail — no matter what strikes (show less)

The Internet in Everything
Freedom and Security in a World with No Off Switch
Laura DeNardis (You?)|2020|
4.26
A compelling argument that the Internet of things threatens human rights and security and that suggests policy prescriptions to protect our future
The Internet has leapt from human-facing display screens into the material objects all around us. In this so-called Internet of Things—connecting everything from cars to cardiac monitors to home appliances—there is no longer a meaningful distinction between physical and virtual worlds. Everything is connected.
The social and economic benefits are tremendous, but there is a downside: an outage in cyberspace can result not only in a loss of communication but also potentially a loss of life. Control of this infrastructure has become a proxy for political power, since countries can easily reach across borders to disrupt real-world systems. Laura DeNardis argues that this diffusion of the Internet into the physical world radically escalates governance concerns around privacy, discrimination, human safety, democracy, and national security, and she offers new cyber-policy solutions. In her discussion, she makes visible the sinews of power already embedded in our technology and explores how hidden technical governance arrangements will become the constitution of our future (show less)
Of Privacy and Power
The Transatlantic Struggle over Freedom and Security
Henry Farrell, Abraham L. Newman (You?)|2019|
4.17
How disputes over privacy and security have shaped the relationship between the European Union and the United States and what this means for the future
We live in an interconnected world, where security problems like terrorism are spilling across borders, and globalized data networks and e-commerce platforms are reshaping the world economy. This means that states’ jurisdictions and rule systems clash. How have they negotiated their differences over freedom and security?
Of Privacy and Power investigates how the European Union and United States, the two major regulatory systems in world politics, have regulated privacy and security, and how their agreements and disputes have reshaped the transatlantic relationship
The transatlantic struggle over freedom and security has usually been depicted as a clash between a peace-loving European Union and a belligerent United States. Henry Farrell and Abraham Newman demonstrate how this misses the point. The real dispute was between two transnational coalitionsâ€"one favoring security, the other libertyâ€"whose struggles have reshaped the politics of surveillance, e-commerce, and privacy rights. Looking at three large security debates in the period since 9/11, involving Passenger Name Record data, the SWIFT financial messaging controversy, and Edward Snowden’s revelations, the authors examine how the powers of border-spanning coalitions have waxed and waned. Globalization has enabled new strategies of action, which security agencies, interior ministries, privacy NGOs, bureaucrats, and other actors exploit as circumstances dictate
The first serious study of how the politics of surveillance has been transformed, Of Privacy and Power offers a fresh view of the role of information and power in a world of economic interdependence (show less)

New York Times Bestseller
Foreword by Steven Pinker, author of The Better Angels of our Nature
Blending the informed analysis of The Signal and the Noise with the instructive iconoclasm of Think Like a Freak, a fascinating, illuminating, and witty look at what the vast amounts of information now instantly available to us reveals about ourselves and our world—provided we ask the right questions
By the end of an average day in the early twenty-first century, human beings searching the internet will amass eight trillion gigabytes of data. This staggering amount of information—unprecedented in history—can tell us a great deal about who we are—the fears, desires, and behaviors that drive us, and the conscious and unconscious decisions we make. From the profound to the mundane, we can gain astonishing knowledge about the human psyche that less than twenty years ago, seemed unfathomable
Everybody Lies offers fascinating, surprising, and sometimes laugh-out-loud insights into everything from economics to ethics to sports to race to sex, gender and more, all drawn from the world of big data. What percentage of white voters didn’t vote for Barack Obama because he’s black? Does where you go to school effect how successful you are in life? Do parents secretly favor boy children over girls? Do violent films affect the crime rate? Can you beat the stock market? How regularly do we lie about our sex lives and who’s more self-conscious about sex, men or women?
Investigating these questions and a host of others, Seth Stephens-Davidowitz offers revelations that can help us understand ourselves and our lives better. Drawing on studies and experiments on how we really live and think, he demonstrates in fascinating and often funny ways the extent to which all the world is indeed a lab. With conclusions ranging from strange-but-true to thought-provoking to disturbing, he explores the power of this digital truth serum and its deeper potential—revealing biases deeply embedded within us, information we can use to change our culture, and the questions we’re afraid to ask that might be essential to our health—both emotional and physical. All of us are touched by big data everyday, and its influence is multiplying. Everybody Lies challenges us to think differently about how we see it and the world (show less)

life in East Germany in the early 1980s is not easy for most people, but for Lena, it's particularly hard. After the death of her parents in a factory explosion and time spent in a psychiatric hospital recovering from the trauma, she is sent to live with her stern aunt, a devoted member of the ruling Communist Party. Visits with her beloved Uncle Erich, a best-selling author, are her only respite.
https://www.slideshare.net/AiswaryaKhilar/the-electronic-eye
But one night, her uncle disappears without a trace. Gone also are all his belongings, his books, and even his birth records. Lena is desperate to know what happened to him, but it's as if he never existed.

The worst thing, however, is that she cannot discuss her uncle or her attempts to find him with anyone, not even her best friends. There are government spies everywhere. But Lena is unafraid and refuses to give up her search, regardless of the consequences. (From Annick Press)
